Design and Technology

Let’s go invent tomorrow instead of worrying about what happened yesterday.
— Steve Jobs

Below is a brief outline of the Design and Technology curriculum for each year group. Once your child is registered with us you will receive an information pack which includes the full curriculum. If you would like to enquire online, please click here.

In Design and Technology lessons the children will design and make products that solve real and relevant problems considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. In doing so they will acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they also develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. Projects include designing a fair ground ride, a play area packaging for breakfast cereal, a bridge, kites andmoving toys. Pupils will use a range of tools and techniques to complete their designs and will thereby gain the practical expertise needed to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. They will also learn to critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others.

📏 Design and Technology at Hampton Prep will be an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject, using creativity and imagination.
📏Design and Technology will be taught to Years 3 and 4 on a weekly basis throughout the academic year.  From Year 5 upwards, pupils will learn Design and Technology for two terms and Food Technology for one term.
